ABOUT OUR HONOURARY DOCTORATE DEGREE

Renaissance Bible College and Seminary announces the opportunity to
receive recommendations and nominations of persons in the ministry who
deserve the special recognition and honor of receiving the Honorary
Doctorate Degree.

However each applicant must meet the criteria established
by the Seminary which will also be based upon the evaluation of information
provided about the candidates. The Honorary Doctorate Degree is conferred
upon distinguished Apostles, prophets, Pastors, Evangelists, Ministers, and
other Christian Leaders who have made significant contributions in their
respective fields or for the expansion of God’s Kingdom.

An honorary degree or honoris causa (Latin:” for the sake of the honour”) is an
academic degree for which a Seminary (or other degree-awarding institution)
has waived the usual requirements, such as matriculation, study and the
passing of examinations. The degree is typically a doctorate and may be
awarded to someone who has or has no prior connection with the institution.
The Honorary Doctorate Degree awarded solely for the accomplishments and
contributions that a person has made.

TYPES OF HONOURARY DOCTORATE DEGREE

  • D.D (Doctor of Divinity)
    D. Litt. (Doctor of Literature)
  • D. Adm. (Doctor of Administration)
  • D. Th. (Doctor of Theology)
  • D. lett. ( Doctor of Letters)
  • D. Music (Doctor of Music )
  • D.Min. (Doctor of Ministry)
  • D.CEd (Doctor of Christian education)

CRITERIA

These individuals will be chosen primarily based on:

  1. Their length of years served and contribution to their ministry or profession.
  2. Their demonstration of high Christian standards and integrity.
  3. Their faithfulness in promoting the college and seminary.The “conferees” submit voluntary Honorariums in the amount of $2,000(for international awardees) and two hundred and fifty thousand naira(for national awardees) being a minimum Honorarium for participation in our Honorary.
  4. Doctoral Degree Program; this helps defray our costs and enables us to provide you with a good support. Students (Doctoral Conferees) are free to submit a higher amount, we encourage it.

ELIGIBILITY

1. The honourary doctorate degree (honoris causa) shall be awarded by the Board of management of the Bible College, for outstanding contributions in at least two of the following five areas:

(a) Kingdom leadership
(b) Theological education (not restricted to theological colleges);
(c) Church/ para-church ministry, normally over a period of at least twenty
years;
(d) Service to the body of Christ;
(e) Service to the wider community.

APPLICATION/NOMINATION PROCESS:

1. You can apply yourself or nominate somebody for the award.

2. All nominators must sign the application form. Each nominator must complete a Nominator’s Report as contained in the Nomination Form, stating which criteria for the granting of a honourary doctorate degree the nominee
satisfies and the reasons for the nomination. Each Nominator’s Report must be on the Nomination Form and not more than one page in length.

3. It is the duty of nominators to ensure that the nomination procedures are complied with fully and on time.

4. A completed nomination shall consist of:

(a) a completed Nomination Form, including two recommendation letters from the referees and

(b) a current curriculum vitae of the nominee.

5. The next conferral ceremony takes place on the 18th of February,2023.

POST APPROVAL

Following endorsement of the nomination by the management board of RBCS, the Provost’s Office is responsible for making contact with the approved
awardee to:

Formally offer the Honorary Award and confirm arrangements for attendance at the relevance conferment Ceremony Invite the Honorary Awardee to attend seminary Familiarization Day to meet key RBCS staff, learn more about the seminary and the conferment Ceremony at which their award will be conferred, and receive advice and guidance in relation to preparing their acceptance speech.
Honorary Awardees can be accompanied to the conferment Ceremony with guests.
Robes/gowns are provided for the ceremony for the Honorary Awardee by the Seminary’s supplier of academic dress.

Alternatively, if the Honorary Awardee wishes they can purchase their gown themselves through the Seminary.
Honorary Awardees will receive the following from the college:
Citations are prepared by the proposer and finalized by the conferral Team in consultation with the Seminary’s Communications Team.

ONGOING INTERACTION WITH THE HONORARY
AWARDEE

Honorary Awardees are encouraged to maintain contact with the Seminary and their presence is welcomed at RBCS events and/or with specific programme initiatives.

Schools/Directorates are responsible for maintaining an ongoing relationship with Honorary Awardees associated with their area and for reporting annually to the Honorary Awards Committee the nature, extent and benefits of this involvement.

Consideration will be given as to how the Seminary’s Honorary Awardees are made visible (internally and externally) via targeted communications including: press releases, public lectures, inspirational quotes, images amongst others.

WITHDRAWAL OF A CONFERRED HONORARY AWARD

There are circumstances in which the Honorary Award may be withdrawn by the College. These being where:

Should it become known publicly or otherwise that the degree recipient no longer represents the purpose and mission of RBCS or is found to have serious integrity issues, RBCS may withdraw the Honorary Degree.

The actions of the individual, either within or outside of the Seminary, could result, or have resulted in, reputational damage for the College the individual has been found to have breached RBCS policies or procedures.

Any proposal to withdraw the honorary status must be agreed by the Honorary Awards Committee prior to it being communicated to the individual concerned.

NOTE

The application form for Honorary Doctorate Degree is N5,000 for local awardees and $100 for international awardees.
